Roger Federer's forehand and court smarts have made him one of the top-ranked
tennis players in the world. Roger Federer is the Swiss tennis player
whose four consecutive titles at Wimbledon
(2003-2006) made him the dominant men's player in the world.

Roger Federer was born August 8, 1981, in Basel, Switzerland to
Lynette and Robert Federer. Tennis was a family passion in the Federer
home and Roger began playing tennis when he was eight years old.
Rogers first sports hero was Boris Becker, the young German
who won Wimbledon in 1985. Roger recalls watching Becker play Stefan
Edberg in the 1988 Wimbledon final, and crying when his idol lost.
By the time he was ten, would sometimes beat other kids his age
so badly they would start crying and Roger would often cry and smash
rackets himself if he ever lost a match. Roger left home when he
was 13 to train at a top-rated tennis academy in Switzerland and
was the number one ranked junior player in the world by the time
he was 16.
He
made a name for himself in 2001 by beating defending champion Pete
Sampras at Wimbledon, before being knocked out himself in the quarterfinals.
Federer won the men's singles title at Wimbledon in 2003, and in
2004 he again won Wimbledon and added the Australian and U.S. Opens,
with only a third-round loss in the French Open keeping him from
the Grand Slam. In 2005 Federer won his third consecutive Wimbledon
(defeating Andy Roddick in the finals for the second year in a row)
and then defeated Andre Agassi for his second straight U.S. Open
title. In 2006 he lost to Rafael Nadal in the finals of the French
Open, beat Nadal in the finals at Wimbledon and defeated Andy Roddick
to win the U.S. Open. His victory at the Australian Open in 2007
gave him a total of 10 Grand Slam titles.
